Twilight of The Idols

Der in diesem Jahr im Chinesischen Pavillon in Venedig vertretene Qiu Zhijie fasst mit skulpturalen und performativen Installationen seiner ?Götzendämmerung? den ambivalenten Charakter der Nanjing Yangtze Brücke auf. Errichtet 1968, steht das Bauwerk für Chinas Marsch in die Modernisierung. Gleichzeitig erfuhr es traurige Berühmtheit: Denn hier begingen hunderte Menschen Selbstmord. Es sollte zivilen Fortschritt und Maos Revolutionsideen unterstreichen. Heute ist es eher zum Symbol für das Scheitern geworden.
