Im Zentrum dieser Publikation steht Tuấn Andrew Nguyễns Werk When Water Embraces Empty Space. Die Arbeit entstand 2024 für die Ausstellung im Haus für Medienkunst Oldenburg, in der der Künstler die nacherzählte und nacherinnerte Geschichte des berühmten Luf-Bootes mit Videoarbeiten, Fotografien und Skulpturen rekonstruierte. Der Ausgangspunkt für das Projekt war die Begegnung mit den Nachfahren der ursprünglichen Bootsbauer, die das Objekt im Rahmen der Zusammenarbeit erstmals sehen konnten. At the heart of this publication is Tuấn Andrew Nguyễn’s work When Water Embraces Empty Space. The work was created in 2024 for an exhibition at the Haus für Medienkunst in Oldenburg, in which the artist reconstructed the recounted and reimagined history of the famous Luf Boat using films, photographs and sculptures. The starting point for the project was an encounter with the descendants of the original boat builders, who were able to see the boat for the first time as part of the collaboration. A comprehensive essay by Ágnes Berecz situates the work within Nguyễn’s artistic practice, whilst a conversation with Bénédicte Savoy provides deeper insights into the colonial contexts.
