Following exhibitions at Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam and Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center, this, the third presentation formed under the title ?We all Laughed at Christopher Columbus? is realised in the form of a publication. The exhibitions at SMBA and Platform Garanti each united subjective, artistic interpretations of historical events. This publication explores the same field of interest, not as a catalogue of the exhibitions, but as the third exhibition in the trilogy, this time in print. In the same way that the second rendition of the exhibition omitted a number of works seen in the first, while introducing others, so this publication does the same. Jeremiah Day, Omer Fast, Runo Lagomarsino, Florian Wüst and Deimantas Narkevicius participated in one, or both of the previous exhibitions and here develop an aspect of the research stage of their work that they are interested to shape in print rather than as part of a gallery presentation. In addition, works by Mieke Bal, Matthew Buckingham, Leyla Gediz and Dee Williams are introduced to create a new composition of the exhibition. The result is a series of separate but related chapters, each one telling a story based on an historical event, composed by its respective author.
Hrsg. und kuratiert von Krist Gruijthuijsen, November Paynter ( PART ONE: Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam vom 21. Juli bis 3. September 2006 und PART TWO: Platform Garanti CAC, Istanbul vom 14. September bis 21.
