8th Baltic Triennale.
The 8th Baltic Triennial of International Art, entitled CENTRE OF ATTRACTION, aimed to research the ambiguous phenomenon of centres ? their opportunities, dangers and the various relationships between them be they political, economic, cultural, social, scientific, etc. The appeal of the centre ? in some respects analogous to the centrifugal force of black holes ? also produces an enormous gravity, an undertow with unknown consequences. The exhibition and accompanying lectures, seminars and panel discussions endeavoured to initiate critical discourse around the topic of centres, sites of space and of transformation. The first catalogue of the 8th Baltic Triennial of International Art was issued for the opening of the event which was intended and resumed as the most important art event in the region in 2002. This publication consists of presentation of each participating artists' work in both visuals and statements.
