Garaigorta, Charo
Airports
"Charo Graigorta has worked in very different media, including the sculptural form, video and drawing. This book presents a series of drawings that the artist has done over the last five years and which in a certain way define the territory of the conceptual and plastic concerns that she explores in her pieces. The particular feature of her work lies in the fact that she has managed to establish her own code of internal regulations between atistic norms and social norms. By taking elements from diverse sources, from the schematic plans of an airport as featured in in-flight magazines to the choreography of Esther Williams, the series reflects Garaigorta's determination to make free with the idea of the medium and of a system, two of the aesthetic pillars of modernity. Her work demands licence to articulate a voice of its own with which it can establish a way of negotiatung questions of art, gender, content, rigour, soliditiy, etc., all typical of a specifically modernist manner of understanding art and its function."
