Die Publikation DIE ANWESENDE AUTORIN. Wer spricht in der Performance? versammelt Positionen, die in ihren künstlerischen Arbeiten, performativen und choreographischen Praxen die Frage „Wer spricht in der Performance?“ stellen. In ihren Beiträgen sprechen die Künstler_innen für sich selbst, für und über ihren eigenen Begriff von Autor_innenschaft, sie thematisieren was die eigene künstlerische Produktion bedeutet und setzen sich in unterschiedliche Verhältnisse zu ihr. Durch die Aneignung des Begriffs der Autor_innenschaft, der üblicherweise als Analysekategorie verwendet wird, wird es möglich die Funktionen und das Funktionieren dieser Kategorie in und durch die eigene Praxis verhandelbar zu machen.
Die Beiträge reichen von künstlerischen Arbeiten über Performancepartituren bis zu Reflexionen von Arbeitsmethoden und performativen Strategien. Sie setzen sich in unterschiedliche Verhältnisse zu ihren Performances und bespielen die Bühnen auf denen die Beziehungen zwischen Text und Performance verhandelt werden. Es ist die Frage der Autor_innenschaft in den performativen Künsten, die in ihrer Besonderheit besprochen, sowie in ihrem Facettenreichtum nachvollziehbar wird.
Die Herausgeberin Lilo Nein, die sich bereits 2009 im Zuge der künstlerischen Publikation SELBST ÜBERSETZEN! Ein Performance Lesebuch zum Aufführen mit dem Verhältnis von Text und Performance auseinandergesetzt hat, setzt den Diskurs um Autor_innenschaft in Performances fort und erweitert ihn durch die Zusammenstellung der Beiträge um neue Aspekte und Fragestellungen.

The publication THE PRESENT AUTHOR: Who Speaks in Performance? brings together positions from artists, who in their artistic works as well as in their performative and choreographic practices ask the question, “Who speaks in performance?” In their contributions, the artists speak for themselves, for and about their own definition of authorship; they broach topics such as the meaning of their own artistic productions and position themselves in various relations to it. By appropriating the term authorship – which usually serves as a category for analysis – the functions, and the functioning, of this category within and through one’s own practice become negotiable.
The contributions range from artistic works to performance notations and reflections about work methods and performative strategies. They relate to their performances in various ways and set the stage on which the relationships between text and performance are negotiated. It is the question of authorship in the performing arts arts whose particularity is discussed and whose diversity becomes comprehensible.
In her artistic publication TRANSLATE YOURSELF! A Performance Reader for Staging (2009), the publisher Lilo Nein already explored the relationship between text and performance. She now continues the discourse on authorship in performance and expands upon it through the addition of new aspects and approaches.
