?GO COWBOYS? presents a photographic journey through the history of executions, both public and private, fromdifferent time periods and relating to various cultural and political contexts. The book contains only authenticatedpictures of executions that artist, Larissa Aharoni, researched and found on the internet. From the execution ofGerman war criminals in Poland to the public lynchings of the southern United States, viewers are confronted withthe horror of this all-encompassing human subject matter. The viewer is thrust into the role of the voyeur as theunique binding style of this book requires an act of unfolding in order to reveal its darkness. GO COWBOYS takesas its starting point Bruce Nauman's quote, demanding that ?Art should be like getting hit in the face with abaseball bat.? Due to its implicated cynicism regarding executions, the title for the book ?GO COWBOYS? wasinspired by the final statement of Jesse Joe Hernandez, who received lethal injection by the State of Texas onMarch 28, 2012 in Huntsville.
